As part of the project of refinishing this client’s kitchen, she requested that we come up with an idea to take her range hood and make it a special architectural feature in the space. The previous finish on the hood was a two-toned paint treatment and some kind of plaster.
The first step was to let Jeff Miller, JMA Home, our resident cabinet “artist”, perform his magic and overlay the old hood with wood and trim it out so when complete, the range hood would look like a very expensive patina bronze, custom piece. The next step was to properly prep and apply the specialty paint manufactured by Modern Masters, Inc.. After painting the basecoat of this paint that actually has metal elements incorporated into the paint, we used an activator to create a chemical reaction which causes the paint to age and patina like an actual bronzed structure. The client tells us that friends can not believe that this is just a wooden element. That was the goal!
We have classes available that can teach you how to alter your cabinets, walls, furniture or any other architectural surface and make it look like something else. We offer group classes or individual one on one training tailored to your specific needs or goals.
